Grow Your Own

Our parents and grandparents were much more likely to live in rural communities and/or to grow their own food.

Today, an Urban Farming movement is gaining some momentum, and small rural farms are making a come-back, but many people have lost the skills needed to plant and grow food from seed.

Food historians tell us that the urban food movement began at the beginning of World War II when Hitler vowed to block Britain’s food imports with U-boats.  He didn’t manage to starve the Brits out. They rallied and grew twice as much food as they had imported by digging up golf courses, parks and back yards.  This inspired the “Victory” gardens of the United States.
